Yaya DaCosta To Star As Whitney Houston In Biopic

Rihanna once said she'd give her "entire life" to play the role of Whitney Houston in a biopic.  Sorry RiRi, it ain't happenin'.

Former America's Next Top Model contestant Yaya DaCosta has landed the coveted role of the late Houston in Lifetime's upcoming biopic, TVLine reports.  The film will focus on the late singer's successful career, as well as her volatile marriage to Bobby Brown.

Since appearing in Cycle 3 of America's Next Top Model, DaCosta has had recurring roles on "All My Children," "Ugly Betty" and "House."  She's also appeared in films such as "The Kids Are All Right," "Tron: Legacy" and "Lee Daniels' The Butler."

The biopic will be the directorial debut of veteran actress Angela Bassett, who co-starred with Houston in the 1995 film "Waiting to Exhale."  The biopic is expected to air in 2015.

Houston's family hasn't been pleased with the idea of a TV movie, saying Whitney is too big for the small screen.  "Whitney is certainly worthy of more than a television movie," Pat Houston, Whitney's sister-in-law, told TMZ.  "If Whitney were here today, this would not be happening."  The Houston estate is said to be planning their own biopic for the big screen, similar to Michael Jackson's "This Is It."

Whitney's daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, has also made it clear that she's not on board with the movie.  She says she the only person her mother approved of to play the role:
