A Nebraska man has been sentenced to 180 days in jail after being pulled over for driving drunk with 100 chickens in his SUV.
Luis Motola-Palacio was initally pulled over in January for driving without his headlights. That's when police discovered a makeshift cage containing the chickens in the back of the SUV. 58 of the chickens were still alive, and showed signs of signs of being abused. The 42 that perished had been crushed by the weight of the other chickens.
Motola-Palacio pleaded guilty to drunk driving and livestock neglect. On top of jail time, Motola-Palacio was fined $1,000 and is banned from driving for 15 years.
According to KOLN-TV, the surviving chickens were taken to the local Humane Society.
