To say I loved playing with Barbie Dolls would be an understatement! I had an entire room dedicated to my Barbie's and all their stuff. I had a 4-story house, a horse stable, pool and spa, horse stable, and multiple vehicles. My Barbie's definitely lived the good life. But the Barbie's I played with are definitely a thing of the past because the famous dolls are getting a makeover.
There have been a million and one stories done on how unrealistic Barbie dolls are. Their measurements aren't something any real woman could ever achieve.
In 2011, The Huffington Post wrote a big article on Barbie's unrealistic proportions. If Barbie were an actual woman, she would be 5'9" tall, have a 39" bust, an 18" waist, 33" hips and a size 3 shoe," Slayen wrote in the Huffington Post. "She likely would not menstruate... she'd have to walk on all fours due to her proportions." Slayen estimates Barbie would weigh 110 pounds and have a BMI of 16.24.
Eek. Up until now most Barbie's looked the same with the exception of skin color, hair color, and makeup. But now Mattel is expanding Barbie's look to include some new more life like body types.
"The Barbie of 2016 is nothing like that, especially with the announcement today that Barbie's Fashionistas line will be getting three new body types: tall, curvy, and petite. With the original body type, that means there will be four total body types to choose from, along with seven skin tones and 22 different eye colors. "
Here's what the new Barbie's will look like.

Finally!!! Global general manager for Barbie Evelyn Mazzocco said, "We are excited to literally be changing the face of the brand – these new dolls represent a line that is more reflective of the world girls see around them – the variety in body type, skin tones and style allows girls to find a doll that speaks to them."
What do you think of the new Barbie body types?
