Demi Lovato Just Quit Instagram And Twitter

Um, WHAT?!

For those who love a good rant by Demi Lovato, she just dropped  off the two social media outlets Instagram and Twitter.

Part of what her upset is happens to be that people are always going to talk about the bad than the good, and she even points out when she started a charity for mental health and nobody batted an eyelash:

She left up her profile, but must have just signed off of it - but knowing Demi, she will focus more on her fitness and mental stability in the time that she's off social media. She's keeping her Snapchat open, but that's about it at this point.

Now, to some degree, there is actual science suggesting how good it is for you to actually unplug for a while - and given that most of us are addicted to social media, it can't all be a bad thing to get a little "you time." We checked the good ol' interwebs to see if others had done the same and how it effected them - and the results were mostly positive.

Blogger Brian Martinek shared that after he deleted 8 different social media applications from his phone (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Klout, Snapchat, Foursquare, LinkedIn, and Google Hangouts), that he began to get more work done. Though he ended up adding Twitter and Snapchat back after three days because they proved to be less addicting, he vouches for the process.

He shared this thought on his blog:

"A funny thing happened during this two week period. I started getting a lot more work done (it was a noticeable difference looking back) and I have been much more focused since then. Apparently all of the switching tasks and rolling through multiple feeds did something to my brain that caused my focus to be diminished on important tasks. Having less mental noise of “The Fear of Missing Out” also has given me more physical energy (not joking)."

 

Social Control shares that there are pros and cons to leaving social media, but they share the same thing - you find yourself having more time to complete other tasks while passing time on the sites. Another thing that they share, is that if you're constantly worried about how many likes or retweets you get on an item, your self confidence starts to sink. The only real cons it shows is that lack of immediate access to friends and family and breaking news updates in real time. Regardless of those things, you probably can take a break and the world will not end.

So you know what? Good idea Demi. We hope it helps getting away from some of the negativity in this world! We might just try it ourselves... Maybe.
