A North Carolina Democrat announced his intentions on running for the U.S. Senate in 2022 on Tuesday.

Jeff Jackson, a Charlotte attorney and state senator, made it official that he’ll be looking to take the seat that will be  vacated by exiting Republican Richard Burr.

Jackson, 38, a Afghan war veteran and National Guard soldier said he is committed to “honesty and decency” in politics. He’s the latest candidate from either party to announce a run after Burr’s seat.

Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, was one of the high-profile names to initially throw weight into the primary mix. The incoming elected Senator will join Republican Thom Tillis to represent the Tar Heel State in the Washington chamber.

“The idea is just to do a good job and this is what a good job would look like,” Jackson told The Associated Press in a phone interview. “The idea is not to run a super clever political campaign. The idea is just to be very straightforward and surprise people by how real it is.”

North Carolina Republicans have now won four consecutive Senate races over the past 11 years.

The Democrats took control of the U.S. Senate by flipping seats in both Georgia runoff races, along with Vice President Kamala Harris as the pivotal tie-breaking vote.
